The choice between recreational and competitive dance is largely driven by individual goals, time commitment, and financial considerations.

Time
- Recreational dance is only around 30 minutes to 1 hour a week.
- Whereas competitive dance is much more or a commitment, at a minimum of 1 1/2 hours, to upwards of 25 hours per week. (depend on age, skill level, and number of dances)

Money
- For recreational dance there is going to be a lower cost than competitive dance, due to fewer fees and less equipment.
- For competitive dance the cost is going to be higher due to competition fees, costumes, etc.

Goals
- Recreational dance focuses on enjoyment and personal expression, while competitive dance emphasizes skill development, performance excellence, and striving for awards at competitions.
